“BAJNE DO SHEHNAI… YAAR” by LALIT PARIMOO at NATSAMAJ

About the play

Synopsis
“BAJNE DO SHEHNAI… YAAR” is a comedy play in Hindi, which revolves around the lifestyle of a playboy Mayank and his realization, that for true and long-lasting love, marriage is of utmost importance.
The story begins with Hansal, the younger brother who leaves his parents house to live with his elder brother Mayank, which creates a stir in the family. Mayank encourages his younger brother to shed his virginity and enjoy life as an epicurean with food, girls, night life and no responsibilities.  Their parents who belong to the traditional and orthodox section of our Indian society are unable to cope with the new change. This creates funny situations where both the generations seem to remain alien, to one another.
Mayank, who is a ladies’ man, after a near break–up with one of his girls, develops deeper emotions and feelings for her. Hence, he decides to marry her and becomes more responsible as a professional also. Meanwhile the younger one blossoms into a playboy, imitating the elder one. He’s now learnt dating, dancing, drinking and becomes completely irresponsible. This creates a new, interesting and humorous clash between the brothers as both have interchanged their roles and
are about to lead new lives.

The play sends across a social message that one may live a reckless life for some time, but sooner or later the spiritual values and sense of responsibility should be the guiding force.

ABHINAY YOG
Abhinaya Yog is combination of Abhinaya (acting) and yoga. This form aims at self-development of the individual with the aid of basic acting skills and yogic techniques. As Parimoo says, "It's about realising the fact that you are an actor, who has come to this world for a brief span, and will go away after you fulfill your responsibilities. If you wish to be happy and cheerful, you need to be satisfied with the role that is assigned to you. Most of us fail to play our roles to perfection, and that's why life becomes a series of mistakes."
As an actor i have realized the potential of abhinaya as a means for spiritual upliftment only if the energy is redirected towards the attainment of supreme. If the aim is only to earn money and fame then one shall be satisfied by learning the tricks of the trade .this shall not take one far on the spiritual path .
Also my desire is to create a new ideal for our youth which is like radar less boat at the moment. In my opinion today’s so called stars have done more harm than good to the society.. youngsters do ape their matinee idols but in the end themselves become psychic wrecks because the image created by their idol is false and imaginary and people fall in love with the imaginary characters forgetting the fact that the star playing the character is as ordinary as anyone else rather in many matters is totally contrast to what his image gets projected. Abhinaya yog can help one fight all kinds of mental ailments.. as now it has been understood that all diseases are psychosomatic so it is the mind that has to be understood and treated. Our world of emotions, thoughts, Feelings has to be made more strong, more positive, more optimistic .
It helps you VENT your emotions
The asanas keep your body fit, and lead to hormonal balance and stability of mind.
The voice exercises improve speech.
The acting provides you with an outlet for pent-up emotions.
You observe the world as an actor, and are more perceptive and aware.
Interaction with a group makes you a team player.
It helps you get rid of inhibitions.
Improvement in concentration levels helps you stay focused and calm.

Three Steps plan
The First Phase:
Physical training: The asanas aim to make your body fitter, more flexible.
Vocal training: You are taught how to modulate your voice, with exercises like Pranayams.
Observation: Abhinay Yog helps you observe the world from an actor's point of view.
Literature: You are encouraged to study drama, cinema and literature.
Team building: Abhinay Yog involves interaction with a group through games, mock scenes and improvisation.
The Second Phase:
Role playing helps you vent negative feelings. You are asked to act out a scene, in the way you would react to a situation. This will be effective only if you open up easily, rather than feel embarrassed and inhibited.
You are given a fifteen-day chart to follow the rhythm of your emotional world, and a list of scenes depicting positive emotions. The negative emotions are let out through the enactment of dramatic scenes, thus creating conditions for catharsis; a perfect healing process.
The Third Phase:
You are taught concentration techniques.
You are asked to understand the fact that you are a mere actor in the great cosmic drama of the world.
