Students of Oberoi International School make a difference...........

Mumbai, 29th January, 2011: Oberoi International School(OIS) held a day-long festival called the CAS Mela to show their initiative and contribution towards society. CAS which stands for Creativity, Action and Service is a part of the IB Diploma curriculum. The Mela was hosted to create greater awareness and make each student realize that he can make a difference The CAS Mela which was organized by the OIS student committee, saw active participation from students of the school, teachers and parents.

At this daylong event, there were several community-building interactive events such as plays creating awareness about issues like ‘Child Labour’, band performances, dance workshops, science-related games, food stalls, blood donation camps and fun-and-fair stalls which were put up by the students of Oberoi International School. Items from renowned shops in Mumbai were auctioned here where the parents enthusiastically participated and helped the students in their drive to generate money that will be donated to three NGOs: Habitat for Humanity, Project Crayon and Udaan. Additionally, art and craft materials created by students of all age groups were on display and were sold as a part of the fund-raising event. Parents of all school children were very supportive and actively involved at this event to encourage the students to contribute to the society.

The students strongly believe that: Everyone can make a difference. They also came up with a PLEASE parade which stood for Peace, Literacy, Environmental Awareness Saves Everyone. Through their hard work and various activities the school has raised over INR 6 Lacs, which will be donated to the three adopted NGOs.

To motivate the children for their step towards humanity and social responsibility,  award-winning actor and producer Arbaaz Khan along with stand-up comedian, Raju Shrivastav made a surprise visit to the school and entertained the school with some good laughter riot acts and showed their utmost support towards the good cause.

Commenting on this occasion Andreas Swoboda, Head of School, Oberoi International School, stated, CAS is an important part of the curriculum as the students learn to give back to society. The initiative develops a sense of responsibility, objectivity and creativity among the students while the parents identify more strongly with the school through their contribution and participation. It is important for a school's background that its trinity - students, parents and teachers row together in the same direction to help make a difference to the society. It is overwhelming to see them pull such a great event collectively."
