*To write story-screenplay of Vipul Amrutlal Shah romantic comedy*

When ace director Madhur Bhandarkar decided to tread a new path into
light-hearted comedy with his new multi-starrer film, ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai
Ji’, he entrusted the extremely talented Anil Pandey with the story and
screenplay of this prestigious project. Gaining instant acclaim for this
prestigious project starring Ajay Devgan-Emraan Hashmi-Omi
Vaidya, upcoming story and screenplay writer Anil Pandey is now rapidly
moving into the big league by writing the story and screenplay of
a forthcoming romantic comedy produced and directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah.

The young wordsmith Anil Pandey, who has an Arts degree from Lucknow
University and a PG-Diploma in Film & Television Production from Xavier’s
Institute of Communications, Mumbai, felt a different high after narrating
and getting “let’s do it” response from Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Omi
Vaidya. He has come a long way from his days of writing ‘Ugly Pagli’ for
Pritish Nandy Communications and Best Screenplay Awards for TV
shows. And “Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji” is directed by Madhur Bhandarkar &
produced by Bhandarkar Entertainment and Wide Frame films Kumar Mangat.

Creatively inclined Anil Pandey says, “I had a strong and long association
with executive producer of ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’ Sanjay Mehta, who knew
about my eagerness to work with Madhur Bhandarkar. So as the opportunity
presented he liaised to put us together and thus was instrumental in this
opportunity realizing though off course the final cherry on the cake was Mr.
Bhandarkar’s nod and once we hooked…we hooked!!!!”

Elaborating on his ‘Bhandarkarian’ experiences, Anil Pandey says, “On the
sets of ‘Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji’, there was good food and lots of good food,
hilarity, jocularity almost a languishing bonhomie of inspired & passionate
final year student’s backstage --- the most notorious being Madhur
Bhandarkar and Sanjay Chhel  -- the dialogue writer. I think this sums up
the “BHANDARKARIAN” space in which we functioned in a complete democratic
way. Thankfully it was not a home work handed out with a get…back…to…me
rather a let’s sit….down…racks our brains and crack it together approach
which I think was essential for this kind of subject.” Adding he mentions,
“So while Neeraj got the germ idea, we huddled together to put together a
surprise out of the closet Madhur for the fans who have savored his
otherwise issue based angsty fare. We enjoyed full freedom of expression and
exploration with Madhur Bhandarkar, who prevailed with his veto at
times, was by his clarity of vision and maturity rather than ‘My Way or
Highway’ from a man with multiple hits and 3 national awards behind him. The
Bhandarkarien experience was the most inspiring one not only as writer but
as a cinema lover was to see somebody accomplished and acclaimed to stepping
out of their comfort arena to do something which they personally love. To
sum it up, Hrishikesh Mukherjee meets Basu Chaterjee meets Woody Allen sort
of slice of life romantic tease called ‘Dil toh baccha hai ji’.”

“A certain brand of sauce has always been beacon of my growing up years as a
writer, it claims, “it’s different”! Therefore though I suffered occasional
constipation of ‘I hate it when people say change it, I am game to
repetitive scramble and build till the bridge is Brooklyn. That’s how I
aspire to be known,” Anil Pandey adds.

Appreciative of this golden chance, Anil Pandey said, “Though one can’t deny
that as directors, actors, writers we do eagerly like kids await the
approving and appreciative applause of the viewers yet I truly feel thankful
for the journey too- for getting this opportunity-for the kind of
relationship that I and Mr. Bhandarkar struck and for being intricately
dovetailed in a process of storytelling and in screenplay writing of “DIL
TOH BACCHA HAI JI”.

Anil Pandey’s body of work includes story and screenplay of ‘Ugly Aur Pagli’
(Film); K. Street Pali Hill (TV series), Raat Honey ko hai (TV series), Kya
Kahein (TV series), Crime Patrol (TV series) and dialogues of Saara Akash
(TV series).

He is also nominated for Best screenplay writer [Drama series & soaps] and
for Best script writer [amongst all categories and writers] in Indian Telly
awards 2005 for show titled “Kya Kahein”.
