MUMBAI, December 01, 2012: As part of its beyond classroom endeavour, Oberoi International School (OIS) organised a unique fund raising activity for NGO’s as per its community outreach programme, raising over INR 16 lacs with the support from parents and teaching staff community on November 30, 2012 at Westin, Goregaon, Mumbai.
OIS organised its 2nd Annual Gala Dinner, which is a fundraising event that brings together parents, teachers and friends for an evening to celebrate the community contributions of the school and students. The initiative was taken to help further the development of the Community Outreach Programme at the school.
Parents enthusiastically participated and helped Oberoi International School in their drive to raise funds which was donated to nine NGOs: Habitat for Humanity, Udaan India Foundation, Operation Smile, Teach for India, Sneha, Atma Education, I love my mother earth foundation, Assassi Bhavan & Children’s movement for civic and environmental activities (CMCA).
The community outreach programme was initiated to inculcate a sense of social responsibility among parents and students, and to reach out to positively impact the lives of the less privileged in whichever way possible.
Commenting on this occasion, Dr. Vladimir Kuskovski, Principal, Oberoi International School said, “The event provided an opportunity for the students, parents, and the teaching staff to come together under one roof and partake in a noble charity initiative. Participating in charitable initiatives is an important part of the curriculum as the students learn to give back to society. By being able to give, one appreciates what one has. It helps students develop a sense of responsibility, objectivity and creativity."
The event saw active participation from students of the school, teachers and parents. Several community-building interactive events such as Jazz performance by Hideaki Tokunaga, a Stand-up Comedy Act by Kunal Rao and Sapan Verma (Comedy Store fame) was held at the event. Roshan Abbas was the emcee for the event.
Parents and teachers donated items such as branded clothes and jewellery which were auctioned. There were two types of auction: Silent auction and Bid to Win. A Raffle Ticket draw was also held at the event.
